(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Federal prosecutors in northwest Indiana say a former Gary police officer targeted a teenager in a summer employment program, and tried to get them to send him sexually explicit images.
James Bond, 52, of Crown Point was arrested Thursday morning and had his initial court appearance in Hammond a few hours later.
The indictment alleges that Bond, while serving as a Commander with the Gary Police Department earlier this summer, enticed and coerced a minor to produce sexually explicit content and send it to him.
At the time, the minor was employed by the City of Gary as part of the Summer Youth Employment Program, which employs people between the ages of 14 and 22. It is unknown how old the victim in this case is.
A spokesperson for the City of Gary said Bond was demoted in mid-July and relieved of his police powers. He then retired from the police department last month.
