Agency seizes fake Cartier, Louis Vuitton and Versace goods at O’Hare

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported seizing counterfeit goods nearly every day last month at O’Hare International Airport.

Customs and Border Protection said the seized goods, including apparel, jewelry, electronics, shoes and other items had a retail value – if they were real – of nearly $3 million.

The 29 shipments came from China, Russia, Mexico, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Thailand, the Netherlands and Israel.

The agency said the shipment from Israel contained more than $700,000 worth of counterfeit Cartier, Louis Vuitton and Versace bracelets, rings and necklaces. Again, if they were real, these goods would total over $700,000.

Shane Campbell, area port director in Chicago, said the popularity of online shopping makes it easier for “charlatans” to rip people off.
