The Chicago Department of Transportation says the annual fall "boat runs" will begin at 9:30 a.m. on September 30.
That means bridges along the main and south branches of the Chicago River will be lifted to allow sailboats and other recreational boats to move from Lake Michigan to their winter storage facilities.
Bridges will be lifted in succession from DuSable Lake Shore Drive to the 18th Street Bridge with each taking about 8 to 12 minutes to complete.
According to CDOT the fall 2026 bridge lift schedule is as follows:
Wednesday, September 30 at 9:30 a.m.
Saturday, October 3 at 9:00 a.m.
Wednesday, October 7 at 9:30 a.m.
Saturday, October 10 at 9:00 a.m.
Saturday, October 17 at 9:00 a.m.
Tuesday, October 27 at 9:30 a.m.
Thursday, October 29 at 9:30 a.m.
Saturday, October 31 at 9:00 a.m.
Wednesday, November 4 at 9:30 a.m.
Saturday, November 7 at 9:00 a.m.
Saturday, November 14 at 9:00 a.m.
