CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Hundreds joined the Chicago Fire Department on the Near West Side on Wednesday morning for a badge ceremony for fallen firefighter Andrew "Drew" Price.
"Badge number 2751, we retire your badge today to serve as a remembrance of your tremendous life," said Chicago Fire Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt.
Nance-Holt led the emotional ceremony, which took place at Quinn Academy and culminated in his badge being added to the department's Wall of Fallen Heroes.
"The badge is a symbol of his commitment, his bravery and unwavering dedication," she said. "This badge holds the weight of countless lives he touched and saved. It represents a life that mattered deeply."
At 39 years old, Price died on Nov. 13, 2023, after he fell through a skylight during a building fire in Lincoln Park.
Price was a positive and brave force, the commissioner said.
"He never sought any recognition … would never consider himself a hero, as many of them don't," she said. "It is our solemn duty to recognize Drew as a hero, the hero that he is."
Mayor Brandon Johnson said he's remembered for his positivity and bravery.

"I have no doubt that he made Chicago a safer place," Johnson said. "He made it a more compassionate place, and Drew made Chicago a stronger place."
District Chief of Training Shun T. Haynes says his life is remembered through his badge, which has been officially added to the wall of fallen heroes.
"The Wall of Fallen Heroes serves as a reminder of all our fallen members who have given their lives in service," he said. "It also gives us a place to reflect and ensures that Andrew Price, along with all the other members who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, will never ever be forgotten."
