(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Visitation is Wednesday afternoon and evening for Chicago Police Officer Ella French, and Police Chaplain Father Dan Brandt will preach the homily at the St. Jude Service on Wednesday night.

Father Dan Brandt says his homily on Wednesday evening will be a tribute to Officer French “and the noble profession she chose.”

“And what I’m hearing is, it was chosen for her, she really was the real deal, an outstanding police officer,” Brandt said. “And the co-workers of hers really had a great admiration and respect for her.”

Father Brandt he’s seen an outpouring of sympathy.

“I’ve been with police officers these last days, this last week and a half, where people -- more than usual -- go out of their way to thank them or to express their condolences.

“I heard that any number of times from civilians who say, ‘Sorry for your loss.’  And that is just so important for these ladies and gentlemen to hear out there.”

The Archdiocese of Chicago has confirmed that Cardinal Cupich will give the homily at Officer French’s funeral mass on Thursday morning.
