CAROL STREAM, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The family and close friends of Isaac Goodlow III tearfully comforted each other as they were joined by attorney Andrew Stroth just steps away from where Goodlow was shot and killed by Carol Stream police over the weekend.
Demanding answers, Stroth — with the Chicago-based Action Injury Law Group — said what's known right now is that Goodlow was in his home, unarmed, and was shot and killed by police moments after they entered.
Bonnie Pigram, Goodlow's mother, was very emotional during Monday's press conference.
"They shot my son down like a dog," Pigram said. "They shot him down like a dog, like he wasn't even a human being. He wasn't hurting nobody. His nieces and nephews, they all loved him.
"They shot my baby down like a dog."
Goodlow's father also addressed reporters.
"It is a sad day," he said. "It's really sad. We've got to do better. We've got to do better."
The family believes Goodlow, who had a previous bi-polar diagnosis, was experiencing some sort of mental health crisis this weekend when police responded to a domestic violence call on Saturday.
The family's attorney said what they don't know is what is on the police video, both images and sound. They want that footage released immediately, and Stroth said they've demanded as much in letters to the Carol Stream mayor, its police chief, and the DuPage County Public Integrity Unit.
Stroth, who has a history of filing federal lawsuits on behalf of families, said the next steps will be determined after that video is obtained. They also want to see the police report.
Carol Stream police said the officers involved had been placed on leave and would remain on leave while DuPage County investigates the shooting.
