ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The family of a 24- year-old man who was shot and killed by police in Elk Grove Village Friday has now retained a prominent local attorney.

The family of the man identified as Jack Murray has now hired attorney Antonio Romanucci of Romanucci & Blandin to represent them after Murray was shot dead by police outside or near the family home in Elk Grove Village, according to the law firm.

Romanucci helped secure a $27 million settlement for the family of George Floyd alongside civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump in 2021.

Initial reports from police said that officers had been responding to a call of a man with a knife. When they arrived, Murray came out of the house carrying a knife. He was shot during a confrontation with officers in a nearby yard.

In a statement sent to WBBM Friday night, the law firm said: "At this time, we have no reason to believe that the anything inside the Murray's family home would be pertinent or relevant to any crime. We hope to cooperate with the Elk Grove Village police to determine exactly what happened during this tragic incident."

Elk Grove police are conducting a criminal investigation, and the regional Major Case Assistance Team is investigating the shooting.
