Family of teen found strangled to death on South Side mourns as police continue to investigate

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The family of a teenager whose body was found on the South Side this week is speaking out.

The body of 15-year-old Amarise Parker was found Tuesday in the South Shore neighborhood after weeks of searching.

The autopsy revealed the cause of death was strangulation.

Amarise's mother, Yahannah Clark, told CBS 2 that though she's relieved to know what happened, but she is still feeling the pain over the loss of her daughter.

"She was a lovely soul. Everybody loved her. Although she had been missing, but she didn't deserve this. She didn't deserve this," she said.

Parker's parents gathered with community activists and advocates Thursday evening, who asked that anyone with information about Parker's murder to come forward.

"It's extremely hard to say the words 'strangled to death' with the mother and father present here. Imagine hearing those words from a detective," an activist said, according to CBS 2.

Parker had been missing since November. The missing persons alert went out on November 26. She was also reported missing back on Aug. 31, but returned home a day later.

Chicago Police said Parker had a history of running away and returning. That's what happened in August. Authorities said no one is in custody, and detectives are investigating.
