CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - As the Pope remains in critical condition, a South Side priest with a progressive lean is sharing what the world might look like without Pope Francis.

St. Sabina’s Father Michael Pfleger tells WBBM that human decency will be a lasting legacy of Pope Francis.

“The ripple effect will continue because without the voice of conscience, without the voice of decency, without the voice of justice, evil wins,” he says.

Pfleger says the pope has allowed for the blessing of same sex marriage and used his post to speak out against mass deportations and war.

Pfleger notes the pope has also opened the Vatican grounds to the poor while promoting a hierarchy within the Catholic Church that Pfleger believes will help maintain current values even when he is gone.

“The good news is that I think he has appointed lots of cardinals, and so there’s a lot of people, I think, that he’s tried to put in places of position that have the kind of heart he has and the kind of passion for justice he has,” Pfleger says.
