(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The FBI is investigating an attempted armored car robbery that occurred earlier this week in Country Club Hills — the latest in a string of such crimes in the south suburbs.
It happened near 167th Street and Crawford Avenue. The FBI said armored car guards were conducting a money transfer in front of a business.
Two suspects in a sedan sped into the parking lot and fired at the guards, who returned fire. A store security guard also fired at the men, one of whom might have been hit.
The men ran and carjacked someone in the parking lot before escaping. Officials did not have a good description of the men. There are surveillance camera images, but no faces shown.
A video from the FBI showed the attempted robbery.
Officials said the men are at large, and the FBI announced $20,000 rewards for information on this attempted robbery, as well as other armored car incidents that lead to arrests and convictions.
