(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The U.S. attorney's office in Chicago is warning people to be on the lookout for COVID-19 vaccine scams.

It could come in the form of a telemarketing call, a text, even a knock on the door, with somebody offering access to vaccine in exchange for money or personal identifying information, such as your Social Security number.

Don't fall for it, federal prosecutors say.

"Unfortunately, ruthless criminals are attempting to take advantage of unsuspecting people anxious to receive a Covid-19 vaccine," U.S. Attorney John Lausch said in a news release Tuesday. "Any unsolicited offer to gain an advantage in connection with a Covid-19 vaccine is likely a scam."

Federal prosecutors say if you want accurate information about the vaccine, contact your doctor directly.

And if you get an email that promises early access to a vaccine, don't click on the link. It may expose your computer to a virus.
