(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An Elk Grove Village man has become the latest Illinoisan to be charged in connection with the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
Documents filed in federal court Thursday allege 38-year-old Marcos Gleffe entered the building, waving a Trump flag, as mobs disrupted a joint session of Congress.
Many rioters have identified as supporters of former President Donald Trump, who falsely claimed he lost the election to Democrat Joe Biden.
Acting on a tip, FBI agents determined Gleffe was in the Capitol for about 14 minutes, based on his phone service and social-media records.
Gleffe told a federal agent entering the Capitol Jan. 6 was “the biggest mistake,” according to documents.
Among the federal charges he faces are entering a restricted building and disorderly conduct on U.S. Capitol grounds, authorities said.
