(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 32-year-old Chicago man, who made headlines across the country after he filed a lawsuit related to negative comments on a Facebook dating group, was convicted of tax fraud on Friday.
Nikko D'Ambrosio named Facebook, Meta and two dozen women in a lawsuit, filed on Jan. 8, where he alleged that he was defamed and his privacy rights were violated by members of a Facebook group called "Are We Dating the Same Guy?"
The group bills itself as a space for women to get relationship advice, support and as "a place where women can warn other women about liars, cheaters, abusers, or anyone who exhibits any type of toxic or dangerous behavior." Included in D'Ambrosio's suit were screenshots in which he was described by various women as having "red flags."
"Very clingy very fast," wrote one woman. "Flaunted money very awkwardly and kept talking about how I don't want to see his bad side."
On Friday, a federal jury convicted D'Ambrosio of tax evasion based on his 2019 and 2020 tax returns.
The Tribune reported that D'Ambrosio claimed "as little as $4,000" despite the fact that he made over $300,000 from his role with a company called Mac-T LLC, which specializes in sweepstakes machines.
The sweepstakes machines have been previously linked to figures in the Chicago mob.
D'Ambrosio's sentencing is set for May 28 at 10 a.m.
