(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Months after a Hillcrest High School student was fatally shot following a crowded football game, federal authorities are launching a new tool in their search for suspects.

“It’s time for someone to speak up and say something,” says Amanda Lenoir. “I’m trying to bring awareness, help get justice for my son. This was my only child.”

Investigators have said her son, 14-year-old Marshawn Mitchell, a freshman at Hillcrest High, was shot the night of Sept. 15 while leaving the school’s homecoming football game. He was not believed to have been the intended target of the gunfire.

“I just want the kids that were there to come forward with any information that they have. Someone saw something, someone knows something. There were plenty of kids there. This crime should’ve been solved months ago,” Lenoir said Tuesday at the Chicago offices of the FBI.

The agency has launched a digital media tip line at fbi.gov/hillcresthighschool.

Lenoir says an arrest would bring some much-needed closure to a hurting family.

“We were robbed of a life together.”
