(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A pharmacy in the south suburbs has now lost the ability to dispense certain controlled substance medications after the DEA alleged numerous regulatory violations at the drug store.

The federal Drug Enforcement Administration says an investigation showed that Evergreen Park Pharmacy dispensed “excessive opioids and dangerous drug combinations” to multiple patients. Authorities said the quantities and combinations of drugs “were not for legitimate medical purposes and could have led to respiratory failure and death.”

Evergreen Park Pharmacy is located in the 2800 block of West 95th Street.

The DEA order prohibits the pharmacy from dispensing a wide range of Schedule II to V drugs. According to the DEA, that includes drugs like Ritalin, Adderall, Xanax, Ambien and Lyrica.

WBBM asked the pharmacy owner to comment. He told the Chicago Tribune the business did nothing wrong and will challenge the suspension.
