Eataly remains closed until Sunday after fight occurs, gun fires inside

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Police continue to investigate a fight at Eataly that injured a man and led to gunfire. Eataly will remain closed through Sunday while the investigation is underway.

According to Chicago Police, the incident occurred at around 9:20 a.m. on Friday inside the River North marketplace and restaurant, located on Ohio and Wabash. A man began arguing with two suspects and a fight ensued.


One of the suspects pulled out a gun, police said. The weapon went off during the struggle. No one was hit.

The suspects fled the scene with the gun before officers arrived.

The victim suffered minor injuries from the fight and was sent to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition. No other injuries were reported.

The altercation led to a massive police presence, and as a result Eataly remains closed to the public.

Representatives for Eataly issued the following statement:

"An unfortunate altercation occurred today [Friday] between several individuals at our Chicago location. In response, we immediately notified law enforcement, and they successfully secured the situation. We understand that no individuals sustained significant injuries, however, the investigation is ongoing. Our location will remain closed until Sunday. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our valued community."

No one is in custody.
