NAPERVILLE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A fire broke out at a suburban high school Thursday while students were inside.

Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point received a call just after noon that smoke was filling the cafeteria at Naperville North High School.

Fire crews arrived a few minutes later and put out a small fire in an HVAC unit on the roof. Fire officials determined the fire was started when school maintenance employees doing work with a torch accidentally ignited nearby combustibles.

Naperville North High School's faculty and students were able to safely evacuate before the fire department arrived.
