First babies of the New Year welcomed across Chicagoland

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago area hospitals are welcoming the first babies of the New Year.

Scarlett Carmela Sartori was born at 6 pounds, 15 ounces at 12:12 a.m. making her one of the first Chicago babies of 2025.

Mom, Dad and baby are all together at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Mother Sophia is happy Scarlett will be a part of the city's history.

“We are so excited that, number one that we have her, but it's also really special too that we're able to say that she is one of the first Chicago babies of 2025,” she said.

The couple lives in Irving Park and Scarlett is their first child.

The hospital said the song “Mr. Jones” by Counting Crows was playing when Scarlett was born.

Rush University Health System is also sharing the first babies born in their facilities.

Baby girl Lavaeh Brandt was born to mother Ingrid Brandt of Chicago at 1:03 a.m. at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago. Baby Laveah is 4 pounds, 12.8 ounces.

In Aurora, baby boy Lukas Kuras was the first born in the New Year at Rush Copley Medical Center, Aurora. The baby was born at 2:06 a.m. to Rachael Dewitt and Tomas Kuras of Plainfield and he weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces.

At 2:21 a.m., the first baby of the year at Loyola University Medical Center was born. Baby boy Charlie is 7 pounds, 10 ounces.

Charlie's mom, Natalia, is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Women's Health at Loyola University Medical Center.

"It's been so special to deliver all three of our blessings here at Loyola," Natalia said in a press release.

"Everyone really makes you feel like family and you are cared for at the highest level. We've had three incredible experiences and it's all due to the people. So much gratitude that these people are also my colleagues. We were excited to come in and see familiar faces to kick off the new year!"

Charlie is the third child to Natalia and dad, Mason. He will be a little brother to Brooks and Amelia.

MacNeal Hospital is also reporting the first baby born there in 2025.

Baby boy Alex Elias was the first delivered at the hospital in the New Year, coming into the world at 4:34 a.m. He weighs 6 pounds, 1 ounce.

Baby Alex is ready to go home with parents Yessenia Hernandez and Carlos Chavez Torre, as well as his older brother, 2-year-old Mateo.

MacNeal Hospital is sending the family home with a care package of baby supplies that were collected and donated by the nursing staff.

In Cedar Lake, Indiana, baby Christopher Moore was the first to be born at The Franciscan Health Family Birth Center Crown Point. He came into the world at 11:06 a.m. and weighted 7 pounds, 13 ounces.

Mom Patricia Brooks said she was due on Jan. 4 and was scheduled to be induced on Thursday. However, it seems like Christopher had other plans.

“I was really surprised, but it’s kind of cool to have a baby on New Year’s Day,” Brooks said in a press release.

Christopher will be a baby brother to Charles Moore, Jr., 9.

The family was also give a gift basket containing baby items.
