(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — If this weekend’s Super Bowl has you considering upgrading your television, there’s a new option that is unlike one you’ve ever seen.
LG’s O-LED T is 77 inches of 4k resolution that allows you to also see through the screen. Technologist Carl Prouty showed us the only one on display across the country, in the atrium of Abt Electronics.
“This also has a backlight built in. So if you have it against a wall, there's a light you can turn on and it illuminates the wall behind the TV to match the picture that's on the screen,” Prouty said.
Transparency also means no big power cords.
“You're not plugging anything directly into the TV. You plug it into this wireless box, and that sends a signal to the TV. And then it also has a Sound-Bar built into it.”
After debuting at the Consumer Electronics Show last year, Prouty sees this kind of TV eventually making its way into commercial spaces.
“Say you're on a train and you want to see what the next stop is. If your train has windows made of this type of technology. The train station can display that information right on the window.”
A big reason it’s not likely to be what you’re watching the big game on, is the price tag. It’s $60,000.
Prouty says this is a busy time of year for all TV sales, especially with potential tariffs coming.
“I know a lot of people are purchasing right now to try and avoid anything that might be coming down the pipeline.”
