The person had been fishing with a 74-year-old friend in a small watercraft when one of them got their fishing line tangled in weeds, officials said. The 73-year-old fell into the water after trying to retrieve the line and went underwater for at least one minute, the sheriff’s department said.

The friend tried to hold the victim’s head above water and called for help, and a 48-year-old man from Village Park jumped in the water to render assistance, officials said.

The 73-year-old was taken to Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital in critical condition, officials said.

No further information was available.
