BERWYN (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - FitzGerald's Nightclub on Roosevelt Road in west suburban Berwyn has been officially added to the National Register of Historic Places.

If you like live music, you have almost certainly spent a few nights at FitzGerald's Nightclub. Now, it’s the only music venue or nightclub in Illinois and one of the few in the country to earn historical recognition.

“Although there is no precise record of when the building was built, [I] believe it was finished towards the late nineteen-teens, built as a bar and nightclub for shows, drinking and merriment, just a little before prohibition hit,” FitzGerald’s co-owner Will Duncan told WBBM.

Jess King, a co-owner of FitzGerald's, said her search for old photos led her on a path to getting the designation.

“I typed in the address, just more and more stuff kept coming up, and it went back to the 40s, and then it went back to 30s, and then it went back to 20s, and then I thought, ‘Oh my god.’

FitzGerald’s will celebrate its historic milestone with events throughout 2025. An open house on Jan. 28 will kick off the festivities.
