
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The company that owns the Save A Lot grocery store chain said it plans to renovate five of its existing stores in the city and reopen an old store on the South Side.
Yellow Banana owns and operates eight Save A Lot stores in the Chicago area including five in the city. It says it plans to take more than $26 million dollars to buy the land on which those city stores sit and then renovate those stores.
Yellow Banana also plans to renovate and re-open a closed Save A Lot in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood on 79th and Halsted. A Yellow Banana co-founder said the company’s triple commercial mandate is to deliver food access-job creation and economic development to the company’s customers colleagues and communities.
