(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Flossmoor Police Department released body cam footage on Thursday showing the fatal police shooting of a 64-year-old woman on July 10.

The video showed police responding to a domestic disturbance call on the 1400 block of Joyce Drive. Officers announced their presence and knocked on the door. As a woman using a walker opened the door, someone in the house yelled, “Help me … She’s trying to kill me.”

Footage showed police instructing two people to come outside. Immediately after that, 64-year-old Madeline Miller approached the officers while she held an object.

Flossmoor police alleged Miller was holding a knife. On the video officers were heard repeatedly yelling, “Drop the knife,” as they backed away from the front door into the driveway.

Miller ignored the order to drop it, video shows, and she moved toward the officers.

Body cam footage showed an officer shoot Miller once in her arm. She continued moving toward the police.

As Miller got closer to one of the officers, police fired two more shots. She then fell to the ground.

Seconds after Miller dropped to the ground, an officer can be heard saying, “Seven-one-seven, shots fired, shots fired, send EMS.”

The video ended there. Flossmoor police said officers rendered aid at the scene. Miller was taken to South Suburban Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Police said another female family member was taken to a local hospital and was treated for injuries she received prior to the officers’ arrival.

Illinois State Police are investigating the incident. The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.

Video was posted to the Village of Flossmoor YouTube page. It can be viewed here (Warning: The video is graphic).
