CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A civil case is underway involving an incident in which a Chicago Police SUV rolled over a 15-year-old girl during the George Floyd protests. The problem is that footage from the incident is now missing.
During the protests three years ago, Astarte Washington and her brother were trying to get from their grandmother’s house to their Roseland home on foot; the protests had shut down the bus route.
Police ordered the teens to the ground and they complied. Then a police squad car rolled over Astarte's body, seriously injuring her.
The family is suing the city – a trial date to be set for next year.
The Chicago Tribune reports the city has not turned over Police Department footage from officer body cameras and now it’s reportedly been discovered that the department had mislabeled the footage, compromising its ability to locate it.
The city’s Law Department did not respond to a request for comment from the Tribune.Astarte's mother said her daughter still suffers from the incident.
