(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Political observers and experts say President Biden has many daunting tasks ahead of him — not the least of which is ending the coronavirus pandemic.
But he also has formidable resources at hand.
Biden has promised to have 100 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in his first 100 days.
UIC Political Science Professor E.J. Fagan acknowledges that keeping that promise involves not only the federal government, but also drug manufacturers, hospitals, pharmacies and local governments.
Still, Fagan notes, the federal bureaucracy is designed for such coordination. And the Biden Administration is prepared to use the Defense Production Act to change the way syringes are made. That’s something, Fagan says, that could squeeze one more dose of vaccine out of each vial.
And even if only 50 million people are vaccinated in the 100 days, that would still be the fastest rollout in the nation’s history, he said.
Meanwhile, members of Illinois' Congressional delegation have their own reactions to President Biden's inauguration, mostly breaking down along party lines.
Naperville Democratic Congresswoman Lauren Underwood’s issued a statement saying that the Biden-Kamala Harris administration “will work to put us on the path to recovery, healing, and progress that will make life better for all Americans.”
