CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An allergy expert with Northwestern Medicine said with more people outside this summer — and recent rainfall — many of her patients are suffering.
Dr. Anju Peters said allergy issues can go far beyond a stuffy nose or sore throat.
“If you are allergic to pollens, molds or other allergens, potentially you having worsening nasal symptoms or hay fever,” she said. “There’s also the potential for higher risk of asthma, which can be life-threatening.”
A mild winter and severe storms in recent weeks have created a cluster of allergy issues in the area, she said.
“It seems like every year people are bothered because no matter what, we will have times when pollen is higher, grass is higher, and with these bad storms, definitely mold levels tend to go higher,” she said.
The best way to protect yourself? Talk to a doctor or allergist and learn exactly what you’re allergic to, she said.
