HOBART, Ind. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Hobart police are investigating the apparent murder of the former attorney for the town of Dyer who was found dead in his home Thursday afternoon.
Bill Enslen, 75, was found unresponsive Thursday afternoon by his wife. Police said he had injuries to body and was deceased at the scene. Police also said their home on the 3600 block of West 61st Avenue in Hobart had been ransacked.
According to the Lake County coroner's office Enslen's manner and cause of death are pending. Hobart Capt. James Gonzales said foul play is suspected.
Due to the house being ransacked, police set up a perimeter between 69th Avenue and Colorado Street and 61st Avenue and Liverpool Road. Police dogs were dispatched to the area.
Enslen had a law firm in Hammond and was the town attorney for Dyer for a dozen years, ending last year when he was pushed out in what a critic said was a disgraceful and political move.
Republicans council members, who held a majority, voted him out.
The Dyer Town Manager, Tom DiGuilio, told the Northwest Indiana Times, "He was a good man and he will be very missed. We are all in shock."
He said Enslen was an interesting man who always had a good story. Enslen was already a lawyer when he joined the Marines and fought in the Vietnam War.
Police said the death is under investigation. Officers are searching for surveillance footage of the incident.
