CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A former Chicago police superintendent was the target of an apparent crime over the Memorial Day weekend.

Terry Hillard was appointed Chicago’s top cop by Mayor Richard M. Daley in 1998. He retired from the job in 2003. On Sunday evening, according to a spokeswoman, Hillard was the target of a paintball attack in the Chatham neighborhood.

The former police superintendent is 78-years-old and was in a yard on 83rd and Vernon around 5:30 in the evening when he was targeted. Hillard declined medical attention. Detectives are investigating and no one is in custody.

His spokeswoman said Hillard is okay but wants people to learn from this and reminds everyone to always be vigilant, be aware and be safe.
