Former Cary church up for sale: ‘It would be a phenomenal home’

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A house of God could be your new home sweet home.

A former church near downtown Cary, Ill., is being listed as a residential property after a pastor and their congregation outgrew the space.

“We had a great meeting and talked about a lot of different things with the property,” said real estate broker Daniel Gleason, with the Bremer Team of Keller Williams Success Realty. “When I went in, one of the first things I said is that this would be an amazing home.”

Located at 204 Spring St., the nearly 4,000-square-foot space features large open rooms, a full finished basement with vaulted ceilings and a loft that could easily be transformed into a modern living area.

“Like something like you'd see on an HGTV makeover,” Gleason said.

The building, outfitted with a brick exterior and traditional steeple, was built in 1951 and has a mixed history.

It was a church for several decades, then it became an office space before being sold again in 2015 to another church.

The property went up for sale in September and is currently listed for $419,900.

Gleason told WBBM Newsradio there’s been a lot of interest for both business and residential use.

“If you're looking for something that's a little different and a little project, it would be a phenomenal home,” he said.
