CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The former dean of the College of Pharmacy at Chicago State University has been indicted on federal fraud charges.

Federal prosecutors say 49-year-old Carmita Coleman embezzled more than $650,000 from a national student organization, from 2011 to 2016.

Coleman was executive director of that organization, whose mission was to place more people of color in the pharmacy profession.

The organization sued Coleman in 2017 and accused her of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars for clothes, meals and trips.

Coleman was interim dean of the Pharmacy College at Chicago State University.

She is now charged with four counts of wire fraud. Each count carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison.
