A Frightening Prospect....
A Chicago movie expert is out with a new book about scary movies, just in time for Halloween.
WBBM's Terry Keshner sat down with Nick Digilio, a Chicago broadcast veteran, writer, and movie buff, to talk about his latest book, "Forty Years, Forty Horror Films," which delves into Digilio's favorite frightening features in his four decades as a film critic.
Digilio, sitting in the Lake Theatre in Oak Park after a screening of the horror classic The Babadook, said the book is a follow-up to his previous book "Forty Years, Forty Films," saying "horror is my favorite genre, by far. I felt the need to defend horror....nobody appreciates it!"
We asked Digilio why people love being scared and he said, "For me, it's a release. And a lot of people just like it because it's a rollercoaster....for about ten minutes (people feel like) 'oh my God I'm going to die,' and then you laugh about it."
"Forty Years, Forty Horror Films" by Nick Digilio is now on sale. It was released by independent Chicago publisher Eckhartz Press.
