(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – As police in Huntley investigate the crash that killed a 20-year-old utility worker Monday, the village is mourning his loss.
"We've been best friends since middle school, basically. So, seventh grade we started hanging out,” says Kyle Sexton.
He has started a Go Fund Me page to help the family of Joe Zephries, who was killed earlier this week when he was hit by a vehicle while working on the side of the road for an underground utility line location service, USIC.
"Always at the forefront of his mind was what he can do to better himself, and one of his main things was finding a job that had better growth,” Sexton said. “So, he ended up going to USIC with plans to just move up."
Zephries was the founder of a car show called Spade Society and had just moved in with his girlfriend two months ago, said Sexton, who has questions about what happened to his friend – and some anger.
"In his honor I'm trying to let go of it. It's not easy. I'm obviously upset about the entire situation. But I know if he was here right now he'd say, ‘Dude, just let it go. Let it go.’”
