CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Notre Dame has been playing football since 1899. The Irish have only lost 314 games in their 115 seasons.
And they've never lost at Soldier Field. Ten wins and two ties in the 12 games they've played there - the first of which came in 1929, the last of which came in 2012.
This year's Irish make their way to the Lake Michigan shore Saturday to meet Wisconsin - and do so with Wisconsin's former quarterback, Jack Coan, now leading the Notre Dame attack. Coan threw for 18 touchdowns in his 14-game junior season with the Badgers, and acquired a reputation as a game manager. But he's already thrown eight TDs in just three games under Brian Kelly, whose staff has Coan aiming further downfield to solid results.
Graham Mertz succeeded Coan in Wisconsin, just nine touchdowns and five picks in last year's seven game season, and no touchdowns this year in either the Badgers' ugly punt-fest of an opening loss to Penn State or in their win over Eastern Michigan. Some of that is Wisconsin's keep-it-on-the-ground style, and some of that is simply a young quarterback still getting his major college football bearings.
The game's on TV, of course, but remember, you'll also hear the call both on WBBM Newsradio 780 AM in Chicagoland, and on the Notre Dame channel of the Audacy app, with coverage starting at 10 a.m.
