Gang of 5 Texas men broke into ATMs in Chicago area, Iowa: feds

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Five Texas men have now been accused of robbing ATMs in the Chicago suburbs and in Indiana and Iowa.

Over a three-week period in the spring of 2022, the feds say ATMs in Countryside and Glen Ellyn were robbed -- plus an ATM in Portage, Indiana, and five ATMs in Iowa.

Prosecutors say the same five men pulled off the robberies; all five are from the Houston area.

The M.O. worked like this, according to the federal complaint: The men would get chains and attach one end to stolen pickup trucks and the other to the ATMs. They would allegedly break them open and steal the cash.

Four of the men have pleaded not guilty. The fifth man has now been arraigned in a Chicago courtroom.
