GARY, Ind. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The City of Gary has announced about $10,000,000 in federal funding for several projects.

Some of the money is going toward extending the Marquette Greenway Trail, according to Mayor Jerome Prince.

"This one is one that's certainly close and near to my heart as an avid cyclist and someone who enjoys the outdoors, I understand the importance of having recreational activities in the city," he said.

Congressman Frank Mrvan said he wasn’t just bringing big checks, but also hope.

"We're talking about quality of life. We're talking about investment that make trails better" he said. "It makes Gary more livable,"

Money is also going toward increasing waste-water capacity to keep it out of Lake Michigan, technology upgrades for the police and improvements aimed at increasing cargo capacity at the Gary-Chicago Airport.
