A northwest suburban man has been charged with something that might have you scratching your head given the price of gasoline these days.

The West Dundee Police Department says a 34-year old Carpentersville man has been charged with dumping gasoline down a storm sewer.

It allegedly happened Wednesday afternoon. Police got a call about suspicious activity at 7th and Washington Streets. When West Dundee police arrived, they say two men were draining a gas tank into a storm sewer. Police say one of the men had inadvertently pumped regular gasoline into a vehicle meant to take diesel fuel.

The man was not identified in the police release.

He’s been charged with unlawful disposal of hazardous waste. The West Dundee Fire Department and the Illinois EPA carried out containment measures and say there’ll be no long-term negative impact on the environment.
