Geneva High School student dies after suffering stroke at swim practice

GENEVA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A student at a Geneva high school has died after suffering a stroke earlier this month.

Geneva Community High School freshman James Oliver had been recovering from a brain hemorrhage and AVM stroke that he suffered at a swim practice Dec. 8.

Principal Tom Rogers shared in an email to students that Oliver had been in critical condition until he died over the weekend.

His family shared that Oliver was surrounded by his immediate family at the time of his death.

He has an older brother who's also at GHS, a GoFundMe page is currently set up to "relieve some of the [family's] financial burden."
