(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — If you want to experience Chicago from a different, slower, "greener" point of view, Sunday is your chance.

The 23rd annual "Bike The Drive" is taking place on DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

Amy Rynell, Executive Director of the Active Transportation Alliance, said it's a day to experience the possibilities of a Chicago that reduces its carbon footprint and celebrates a more environmental future.

“In the case of Lake Shore Drive, it's really unique because that is the most beautiful part of our city, our lakefront, our lakefront parkways that we could be using, even more for biking and getting around by transit in other ways than we do now,” Rynell said.

The one day event is a snapshot of what the Active Transportation Alliance says the waterfront could look like with fewer cars.

“It is so inspiring and it really does improve the quality of life and make cities so much more inviting when you create more spaces like this. So, I think we've seen it in global cities, but we've also seen it in the US folks taking down their waterfront and riverfront highways.”

About 15,000 bicyclists are expected to take part in "Bike The Drive." Registration is still open here.
