(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Child-endangerment charges are pending against the parent of a girl who brought a loaded handgun to her elementary school, police in south suburban Richton Park said.

Police say Neil Armstrong Elementary School was placed on lockdown Wednesday after officials learned about the incident.

School staff told police they saw the 10-year-old girl carrying a gun. A staffer then took the gun away from the child and called police.
