Girl, 14, killed in crash after driver runs red light: Chicago police

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A high-speed car crash on the West Side left one teenager dead and several others injured, according to Chicago police.

Police said it happened shortly after 11 p.m., when the driver of a vehicle with five people inside sped through a traffic light near Harrison Street and Independence Boulevard in the Garfield Park neighborhood.

The car crashed into another vehicle and then struck a pole.

A 14-year-old girl died at Mount Sinai hospital. A 14-year-old boy was hospitalized in critical condition.

Three other people in the car suffered minor injuries, and the driver of the other car was not hurt.
