No charges in Glenbrook South teen's death

Lilly Bova

Glenbrook South High School

There will be no charges filed in the shooting death of a Glenbrook South High School student this spring.

Relatives and friends have been waiting for an announcement since the March 28 death of 16-year-old Lilly Bova at her family’s apartment near Glenview.

Prosecutors now say they will not bring criminal charges at this time because they cannot meet the burden of proof.

An autopsy found Bova died from a gunshot wound to the head but the medical examiner ruled the manner of her death undetermined.

In a statement, the office of Cook County State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke called it a challenging case with many questions remaining about how it unfolded.

The office says they have a responsibility to file charges only when the evidence supports doing so.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case after Bova was found shot inside the Salem Walk Apartments on the border of unincorporated Glenview.
