CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two weeks after a 12-story Florida condo tower collapsed, there are structural concerns being made public about a 57-story condo tower in Chicago, and it’s less than a block off North Michigan Avenue.

According to Crain's Chicago, in April 2018, a consulting firm assessed the multi-level parking garage at the base of a condo building, located at 111 E. Chestnut St., and determined some repairs “must be performed as soon as possible, as the conditions pose an imminent hazard to the facility users and to the structure itself.”

The consulting firm, Walker Consultants, reported 18 columns needed immediate shoring up due to "severe concrete deterioration."

Last Thursday, the firm contacted the condo association after the Florida collapse to say that to its knowledge work that needed to have been done immediately in 2018 had not been done, and that it is “highly likely that the concerning conditions have grown worse," Crain's reported.

There are nearly 450 condos in the building, which was built in 1972.

One resident told Crain’s she can’t sleep at night knowing about the issues.

The city plans to send an inspector to 111 E. Chestnut St.
