CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Dozens of activists and organizers in Englewood marched in a ‘Peace Walk’ Sunday.
Reducing fear, offering support and counteracting violence in the South Side community, neighbors of Englewood joined together to spread their message of positivity.
Reina Torres is one of the lead organizers from the group GoodKids MadCity.
"I hope that people saw hope. I hope that they saw that the way the media portrays Englewood...it ain't even like that," Torres said.
The Peace Walkers wanted to remind Englewood residents about the power of community, even in the face of institutional adversity.
Torres said that as the group walked the streets of Englewood, neighbors stepped out to cheer them on.
Organizers also used the event as an opportunity for mutual aid giveaways, offering free food, diapers, baby formula, masks and other household supplies to people in need.
