(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Ask former Chicago alderman Bob Fioretti why he's running for Cook County state’s attorney and he gives an answer you might expect.

“I’m running to restore the mission of this office, of the state’s attorney, to represent the victims of crime, to restore the rule of law,” the Republican candidate tells WBBM Newsradio.

Fioretti has an uphill battle this fall as he runs against Democrat Eileen O’Neill Burke because Cook County has long been a Democratic stronghold. But he says residents are tired of crime and the related problems it causes and he’ll be tougher.

At the same time, Fioretti says as a civil-rights lawyer he has fought to free wrongly accused people.

Voters will have a third choice in November: Andrew Charles Kopinski, the Libertarian candidate for state’s attorney.

Fioretti is the guest on this weekend’s “At Issue” program, which airs 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.
