(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – It’s official: Rolling Meadows High School has a new head football coach, and it’s former Chicago Bears placekicker Robbie Gould.
The school introduced Gould on Tuesday. You could call it a homecoming, but Gould said he never really left.
“I’ve lived here for 18 years. I just commuted or stayed out there during the season. Chicago’s home,” he said.
Gould acknowledges everyone has their own journey. He said he hopes to tap into his experiences to help students shape a life after sports.
“I’m a living testament that sports don’t last forever. And at the end of the day, my first resume that I ever had to make was for the Rolling Meadows head coaching job,” he said.
One of the students Gould will be coaching is junior Anthony Polenzani.
He’s the team’s kicker and says he’s very excited to work with an athlete he’s been watching since he was a child.
Gould is not the school’s only NFL connection. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo graduated from Rolling Meadows in 2010.
Gould says he hasn’t talked with him about his new job but texted his former San Francisco teammate a picture of what he calls the school’s shrine to him.
