Governor J.B. Pritzker has come out in favor of a recent proposal to ban assault weapons as well as to forbid those under the age of 21 from getting gun permits unless they’re in the military or National Guard.

Governor Pritzker points out that he campaigned for re-election on getting an assault weapons ban passed and that whether it’s done during the legislative lame-duck session or in next year’s regular session, he wants it done in the next six months. He believes a proposal by State Representative Bob Morgan of Deerfield is constitutional, however, he expects there to be lawsuits.

"My expectation is that there will be lawsuits because, once it’s passed, the people who oppose it, that’s really all that’s left for them," Pritzker said.

Besides banning assault weapons and keeping people under 21 from getting FOID cards, Representative Morgan’s proposal would also ban large capacity magazines.
