It's not too late. As much as the Bears were backfiring in Baltimore, they'd find a way to stay in the game with only a few minutes to play.
Cairo Santos' 47-yard field goal draws the Bears within a touchdown, 23-16 with 5:06 to play.
A short-handed defense (minus injured Kyler Gordon and Tyrique Stevenson) pushes the Ravens to a 3rd and long ...and backup QB Tyler Huntley keeps the drive alive, pushing the Ravens all the way to the redzone, where Derrick Henry's second touchdown run of the day with 2:09 to go is the knockout blow.
The Ravens beat the Bears, 30-16.
"Give Baltimore a lot of credit." Bears head coach, Ben Johnson says.
"They came out and they played a physical brand of football just like you'd expect. They were hungry. They were determined. Truth be told, I expected a little bit more out of our squad to counter that."
"So, we fell short."
The (2-5) Ravens end a four-game losing streak with Huntley filling in spectacularly for injured, two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson. 17-22, 186 yards, 1 TD pass, 53 yards rushing, no turnovers.
Henry rumbles for 71 yards and his 111th and 112th career touchdowns, breaking a tie with late-Bears great Walter Payton for 5th all-time.
"We just weren't good enough to get off the field." Bears safety Kevin Byard says.
"We had some penalties in key spots down there. We got a couple of stops but it wasn't enough. Weren't consistent enough stopping the ball. Too many long drives. And obviously we didn't get any take-aways."
Byard and the Bears lose the turnover battle 1-0. Caleb Williams INT with nine minutes to play. The Bears were in a spot to drive the length of the field for a game-tying or go-ahead score.
That drive started with 1 of 11 Bears penalties.
"I think that's what it (eliminating flags) comes down to." Williams says. "Being able to emphasize more, I think being able to talk about it more, figure it out, is where we're at. Just find a solution to 'why?' And find a solution to stop it. Because it's hurting us as an offense and as a team."
Those eleven penalties total 79 yards and hurt the visiting Bears. Their four game winning streak ends.
Williams 25/38, 285, 0 TD. His one interception is the only turnover of game, and comes with the Bears down three points in the fourth quarter, backed up near their own endzone.
Williams also committed a costly intentional grounding penalty, backing up Cairo Santos for a 58-yard field goal attempt he missed at the end of the first half.
D'Andre Swift 45 yards rushing, 1 TD (2-yard TD run, 16-13, 4q).
The Bears get a full week to prepare for their next game, in Cincinnati, Sunday (11/2) at noon.
Three more Bears are injury concerns after leaving the Ravens game early; WR Luther Burden (concussion), DL Dominique Robinson (ankle) and DT Shemar Turner (knee).
