(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A CTA security guard was reportedly punched this morning at the Thompson Center his attacker tried to steal a ride-share vehicle outside.

Chicago police say it all started around 5 a.m. when a 29-year-old man — reportedly a CTA security guard — tried to break up a fight around the Thompson Center.

But he ended up getting punched in the face, authorities said.

Police say the offender then got into a ride share vehicle. As soon as he got in, the 35-year-old driver decided she wanted out. The offender jumped behind the wheel and crashed the car before fleeing on foot.

No one was in custody.

It was CWB Chicago that first reported the story and that the man who was punched was a CTA security guard.

Police wouldn’t confirm that but said the victim declined emergency medical services.

CTA officials said they received a report of "a disturbance involving an unknown male and a group of contracted CTA security guards," but referred questions to police.
