(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Wednesday was the annual celebration of the Second Amendment known as Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day in Springfield.

Republican lawmakers were a prominent part of the program, calling for voters to reject Gov. JB Pritzker in favor of someone more friendly to gun owners.

Rep. Andrew Chesney, R-Freeport, said things were great when Donald Trump was president. Now, it’s a disaster at both the federal and state level, he added.

Proposals banning so-called “ghost guns” — guns without serial numbers — are among threats to the cause now, said Illinois State Rifle Association Executive Director Richard Pearson.

“We have a variety of bills out there, but I believe that with the strength that the gun lobby has in Illinois and the good gun owners — which is 2.6 million of them, plus — that we will be able to stop that and keep firearm freedom in Illinois,” he said.

Pearson has been putting on the lobbying day — known as I-GOLD — for more than 15 years.
