(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 72-year-old former girls’ gymnastics coach was sentenced Tuesday to 96 years in prison for sexually assaulting a teen gymnast.
Jose Vilchis of Channahon was found guilty last year of eight counts of criminal sexual assault. He allegedly abused a girl in 2013 and 2014 when he was a coach at I&M Gymnastics.
Jurors also heard evidence Vilchis had sexually abused three other teenage girls going back as far as 1997, the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office said.
“Jose Vilchis is a reprehensible sexual predator who calculatingly used his position of trust and authority to take advantage of innocent girls,” State’s Attorney James Glasgow said. “He repeatedly preyed upon young gymnasts in private under the guise of being a caring coach.”
Glasgow commended the young women Vilchis victimized for coming forward to tell their stories.
Vilchis will receive credit for 1,591 days served, the prosecutor said.
